2022 Indigo Vineyard Chardonnay

Beechworth, VIC

Perfect green tinted colour and a sure sign of careful fruit and oak management. Aromas of grapefruit and white stonefruits with lifted toasted cashew notes from the French oak. Grapefruit pith and white nectarine carry through for a long, balanced finish. A fine textured palate with bright citrus acidity. One of the best Indigo Vineyard Chardonnays.

ACCOLADES:
Trophy for Best Beechworth Chardonnay (96 Points) | 2023 Halliday Chardonnay and Cabernet Challange
Trophy for the Gramp Hardy Hill Smith Prize for National Wine of Provenance/ Gold Medal (95 Points) | 2023 Royal Adelaide Wine Show
"The provence trophy is particularly satisfying, as it is judged as a set of wines over a 10 year period and only awarded to a single set of white or red wines. We entered the 2022, 2016 & 2012 Indigo Chardonnay. This award vindicates my long held belief that the Indigo Vineyard is one of Australia’s finest sites to grow Chardonnay." - Stuart Hordern (Senior Winemaker)

Winemaker Comments
Beechworth is a very important region for us, with the vineyard now nearing 25 years of age. Beechworth is one of Australia’s finest regions for Chardonnay. A milder and later-than-average growing season was the dominant factor in Beechworth for vintage 2022. Above-average rainfall throughout 2021 made for a challenging growing season with constant disease pressure. January was wet, with 140mm falling for the month. Thankfully the rain cleared for February, allowing the vineyard to dry off. These conditions resulted in excellent natural acidity. Careful handpicking ensured the grapes arrived at the winery in outstanding quality.
Food Pairing
Roast Chicken or Porcetta.
Drink
Drinking well now but will improve with further bottle age.
